What Nutrients Does Your Cat Need?

For starters, your cat is a carnivore. They need to have meat in some form. This can be chicken, beef, lamb, fish, or eggs. They need fats to provide energy and help absorb vitamins like A, D, B1, B2, B3, and B6. Also, some cat foods incorporate carbohydrates, which are digestible and offer energy.

Reading a Cat Food Label

Cat food companies are required to put particular information on their labels, such as ingredients in descending order of weight, and guaranteed analysis, which tells you the minimum and maximum amount of nutrients like fats, protein, and fiber.

Understand food descriptions. There's a big difference between "chicken cat food" and "cat food with chicken." Chicken cat food must be 95 percent chicken, while cat food with chicken can have as little as 3 percent. Food referred to as "chicken dinner" (or chicken formula) can be anywhere between 25 and 95 percent chicken.

Labels include feeding directions, but they're a guideline and not a "one size fits all." Your vet's recommendations takes precedence.

Look for the nutritional adequacy statement, which explains whether the food is meant for an adult cat or a kitten.

Braxton‘s Animal works is a cute little pet shop with a great selection of offerings for all your pet needs. It’s a convenient blessing to have Braxtons here in Wayne. I’ve been patronizing this store for several years now and I am pleased by the way they support local pet owners here on the Main Line. That said, I do think that the prices here tend to be a little bit high. I know that they are located on the Main Line, but it’s disappointing when I see the same items for less at other similar shops. Overall, Braxtons is awesome and my dog loves going in with me!

Braxton's and all of the staff are phenomenal! Braxton's has the best selection of natural, organic, and minimally processed food and treats for your fur babies. Upon stepping into the store, I was joyfully greeted and asked if I needed any assistance. I did not at the time, and rather took my time to explore the store. From the high-quality leashes and harnesses to the organic dog treats, I was sold! They had tons of toys for dogs of all sizes, I appreciated the organization of the toys (i.e., for catch, for tug a war, comfort, etc). As my pup will be recovering from surgery and chemo/radiation, I was able to acquire some high value treats and Suzie's CBD oil to support his recovery. Thank you to the entire Braxton's team. We will certainly be returning again in the near future. P.S. They had a nice self-service dog wash in the back of the store. Although I have not used it yet, it looks like a proper setup with high-quality supplies.

Great little spot to wash your dog and get them a treat afterwards. They come with aprons and dog shampoo and towels
