Many people may be unaware of the new leash laws in Tredyffrin Township. At the November 7, 2018 Board of Supervisors meeting, changes to the Park and Recreation Ordinance, Chapter 138, were approved - which include changes to the off-leash rules for dogs in the township.
In an effort to clear up any confusion that homeowners might have about the leash laws, Tredyffrin Township Police want to make it clear that dogs are required to be on a leash at all times.
The only exception to that rule is Teegarden Park, but there are restrictions there too. Dogs are only allowed off-leash in the park after owners obtain a township-issued registration tag and even then, only during specific hours.
It is required that all off-leash dogs be registered with the Township and display the issued registration tag. Dog owners must provide the Township with a copy of the dog's license and vaccination records at registration. The fee is $25.00 per dog for Tredyffrin residents and $50.00 per dog for non-residents.
When your pet is off your property, it must be on a leash. Pets are not allowed to run loose in Tredyffrin Township. If you leave your pet outside in your yard, you must have some type of system in place to ensure it does not leave your property.
If your pet is found loose, it may be picked up and taken to the Brandywine Valley SPCA as a stray, which may result in fines assessed to the owner.
Other Dog Related Ordinances
Tredyffrin Township ordinances also require that you pick up after your dog. Allowing your dog to defecate and not removing the waste carries a fine of up to $1,000.
