February is National Adopt-a-Rescued Rabbit Month and to celebrate Braxton's is highlighting reasons that rabbits make great pets.
No Walking - If you are looking for a companion animal but don't have time for daily walks, consider a rabbit. They are easily litter box trained.
Fewer Allergies - Most people with allergies to dogs or cats, don't seem to be allergic to rabbits.
Schedules - Rabbits, like people, are active from dawn to dusk, so they fit well into most human families.
Health - Rabbits are herbivores, so they cause you to stock your fridge with lots of leafy vegetables. (Maybe even encourage you to try some)
Space - Rabbits make great pets for city dwellers and those with little space. They are content in large cages during the day and love to romp around when you are home.
Lifespan - Rabbits have a long lifespan compared to other animals. Most live 10 - 12 years.
Because bunnies are social creatures and bond primarily for companionship rather than reproduction, why not consider two instead of just one.
Bunny speed dating is growing in popularity as a way for bunny parents to introduce their pet to a life long companion. According to the House Rabbit Society Website, "While male-female matches are common, temperament is the main factor in matching. Same-sex companions and unusual size combinations aren’t uncommon." It may take a few dates to find the perfect match. To view a bunny speed date, click here.
Perhaps one of the best reasons to adopt a bunny is that there are so many waiting for forever homes. In fact, after dogs and cats, rabbits are the third most abundant adoptable pet.
Locally, Luv-N-Bunns Rabbit Rescue, located in Broomall, has a wide selection of adoptable bunnies. If you are not prepared to adopt a bunny right now, consider supporting Luv-N-Bunns with their cause. They have several fundraisers and are always in need of non-cash donations too.
