With the holidays rapidly approaching, it is important to stop and remember our pets. With Covid quarantines, some may not have gathered with family for almost two years. Your pets, even if they have been socialized in the past, may experience stress this holiday season.

CBD products could help.

Cannabidiol or CBD is all the rage in Veterinary Medicine right now, but is it right for your pet?

As with any pet wellness trend, when it comes to CBD for dogs, there is a lot of information floating around the internet, and it’s difficult to know what’s accurate and what’s exaggerated.

Frequently used to reduce anxiety in pets, CBD can also help to treat inflammation, cardiac issues, reverse the effects of nausea, and stimulate your pet’s appetite. According to the AKC’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Jerry Klein, there is anecdotal evidence from dog owners suggesting that it can treat pain, as well as control seizures.

With virtually no negative effects, CBD has won the trust of many pet parents. Veterinary schools including our own Penn Vet in Philadelphia have begun to study its effects.

If you and your veterinarian decide that your pet could benefit from CBD, there are some important factors that should be taken into consideration.

  • Look for organic. If the CBD oil is not organic, it at least be free from pesticides, fungicides, or solvents.
  • Get the analysis. The manufacturer should provide a certificate that certifies the amount of CBD that is in the product. Many CBD products contain only small amounts of CBD. You’ll also want to make sure there is little or no THC in the product.

As with any treatment, it is wise to seek advice from your veterinarian first. If you decide that a CBD product is right for your dog, stop by Braxton’s and check out our selection of CBD products; one of our staff would be happy to help.
