Today, Wednesday, October 16, 2019, is Global Cat Day. Formerly known as National Feral Cat Day, this holiday was started by Alley Cat Allies to improve and protect the lives of all cats.
Alley Cat Allies and its supporters around the world will observe Global Cat Day® on Wednesday, October 16, with a commitment to save cats from being killed.
Sadly, over 70 million homeless animals fill shelters in the United States. While kittens are adorable, many older felines make great pets too. And don’t forget, kittens do become cats. One of the many goals of awareness campaigns like this one is to encourage adoptions from a shelter instead of purchasing a cat from a pet store.
So if you feel passionate about our feline friends, join the cause.
Ways to Observe Global Cat Day
- Visit a local shelter to learn about fostering, spaying, and neutering.
- Adopt a furry critter and give them a forever home!
- Use #GlobalCatDay to post on social media.
- Alley Cat Allies recommends that supporters sign their pledge and then share it with friends, family, and social media followers.
Global Cat Day serves to remind us that local laws and ordinances have profound impacts on how the local cat population is treated. Once people are armed with information on the often sad plight of the world's kitties, they may be more inclined to help out — and to speak out.
